Fragrant Pinks, before 1800

The beginnings of an unique collection…..Dianthus Pinks from the 16th to 18thC, as grown and enjoyed in England and Europe.

Almost every garden from before Shakespeare, and far into the 20thC, would have had the sweet smelling pinks, indeed as far back as the 13thC, Chaucer wrote of the flowers being used for their clove scents in Taverns, where they would flavour wine and beer.

My collection in Berwick is aimed at preserving some of these faint echoes from the past, as so many have declined now or not been supported by the nursery trade. By propagating and selling to those excited by classic antique plants, we can keep them going.

Old Fringed White, Bats Double Red, Queen of Sheba, Cockenzie Pink, Bridal Veil, Superbus, Cheddar Pink, Carthusian Pink, Pheasants Eye and more.
